The Contract - Davey narrates details of Pavo's assassination

The room resembled a battlefield, with bullet holes galore, and blood- stained floors and walls.

My confrontation with this mobster, Pavo, was even more complex, with a knife duel which I had not anticipated. Back in his country, he had a reputation as a knife fighter, and was nicknamed, the 'Butcher of Trieste', but he never figured running into me. For once, my excellence in close combat knife fighting techniques prevailed, and in the confrontation, I overpowered him, and slashed and stabbed him, and Van sent him to his death in a hail of bullets from the tenth floor. It was quite a scene.
