A sequel to the first book “Stormy Emotions,” this is the second in Michael Ber’s exciting semi autobiography trilogy.

Set against the background of the Apartheid regime, the book is packed with incredible personalities caught up in the dark days of the pending civil war in South Africa. Mike’s survival of a storm at sea is a physical one, but now he is plunged into a political one that forbids any neutrality. At first he tries to ignore it, and settles amongst the Elite, enjoying the country club airs and the company and intimacy of beautiful women.

Mike describes the beauty of the country, its white sand beaches, its breath taking canyons and its magnificent animal kingdom. It’s almost too perfect. And, even though he is guaranteed a life of leisure, he cannot ignore the plight of the Bantu.

In a defiant act, he crosses a forbidden racial barrier and is hounded by the police. Forced to flee his birth town and province, he seeks refuge elsewhere before joining the freedom fighters on the University campus. For a while he is successful in organizing a resistance, but traitors eventually turn him in. After Mike is released from prison, he refuses parole terms and goes in to exile. The players in this sweeping African saga are multiple, colorful and convincing. Mike successfully weaves a narrow but safe passage between the Supremacist and the Bantu. Opposing opinions on the legitimacy of the ruling party are constant, but surprisingly well balanced and subject to fiery debate. Emotions run high when describing the racial showdowns, and there is no shortage of heroes and traitors. Scenes of intimacy and lovemaking are in abundance and very moving. Others are raw and foreboding. Nevertheless, honesty prevails amongst the main players, who will sweep you away with their life stories. This is a gripping story, which will captivate your attention and have you guessing throughout.
